Power Red is Making a Comeback

by Dana Li

For me, fashion and watches have always gone hand in hand. After all, a watch is often an extension of your personal style and represents a part of you, whether that be a significant moment in your life or your love for something like travel.

While watches, particularly luxury pieces, are meant to be timeless in nature, they’re not necessarily immune to the fashion world’s more fleeting trends and influences. Take the rise of green-dial watches 2021 and 2022 as an example. The spring/summer 2021 runway shows incorporated the color, which subsequently rose to popularity. Green made its way to the watch world soon after as well, with brands from Seiko to Patek Philippe debuting the hue in some of their most sought-after models.

During fashion month this past February, multiple designers (Prabal Gurung, Valentino, and Theory just to name a few) featured a sizzling, bright red in their collections. Even Rihanna sported a gorgeous head-to-toe red look during her Super Bowl performance, with a custom Loewe jumpsuit, Alaïa puffer coat, MM6 Maison Margiela x Solomon sneakers, and of course, a red Jacob & Co Northern Lights watch. The power red is making a comeback and it’s the perfect color for a statement piece, especially in a watch. While many watch brands have already embraced red over the years, we’ll likely continue to see it increasingly incorporated into brands’ core models, just as green was a few years back.

Here's a few watches with different takes on red, ranging from fun and bold to grail worthy.
